Just purchased a rebuilt PSCV from Lonestar Caliper and noticed the metal alignment guard for the two cylinder hoses is not supplied. The instructions do not mention removing the guard from the old valve (maybe obvious) and attaching to the new rebuilt. I assume this needs to be done or are these rebuilts intended to not use these guards?? I noticed the new PSCV have the guard attached but the rebuilt does not. It looks like the guard should be removed and reinstalled. Correct?

The part to which you refer is not a hose guard. It is a power steering hose GUIDE. This guide was added by GM about 1975. It was then used on all Corvettes through the 1982 model year and was also installed on all GM SERVICE valves for 1963-74. Your application originally used the guide.
Keep one thing in mind: GM added this guide for a reason. They did not do it because things worked out just as well without it. Would I suggest you install the guide? YES.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: C3 PSCV replacement
Thanks............. I plan on adding the guide. Lonestar said they don't supply it because as you stated they didn't add it til 75. They are going to be modifying their instructions. The guide is added one bolt at a time so as to not damage the seal.- Top
