The current '65 Technical Information Manual and Judging Guide ("JG") states that goldstripe (a/k/a goldline) tires were intended to be available at the start of 1965 production, but their increased width cause a conflict in the tire stowage compartment, necessitating the redesign of the spare wheel strap bolt and latch bolt to increase their length. Because of this redesign, according to the JG, "it is likely that the goldstripe tire was not factory equipped on early production cars." The JG does go on to state that further research will be required for conclusive proof.
Insofar as the current (Fifth Edition) '65 JG apparently was published in 2003, does anyone know whether there has been further research yielding conclusive proof as to whether the goldlines were available for early '65s and, if so, when (in calendar year '64)? I've researched the Archives here and cannot find an answer (other than info on the longer strap bolts needed for goldlines and knock-offs). By the way, I thought I read here that the Sixth Edition of the '65 JG would be released this year following the National Convention in Denver. Any updates on its due date? Thanks as always.
