I am finishing the development of the new coolant pump and alternator. It is an electric water pump which drives the coolant driven alternator. This way the engine isn't using power to drive the alternator OR the water pump. I'm expecting HUGE gains in engine power without any further mods, since each powers the other.

The laws of physics and Einstein's theories of time do not apply to me.

They are telling me they don't have the 44's anymore, that the 43 is the same as a 44. According to my 62 owners manual (can't find my 63 manual) that for town and country driving use the AC 45. My engine is a 327/300

Have "they" owned, driven, and worked on vintage Corvettes for 50 years. Those of use who have found decades ago that the OE AC 44 was too cold for normal road operation and fouled easily. The one heat range hotter AC 45 was just right and greatly extended plug life.

The AC 44 is long out of production as is the AC 45. All that's left is the resistor type AC R45, but some moron at GM specified the AC R43 to replace the OE 44, and the aftermarket followed with their equivalants to the R43 in their catalogs, so guys with no experience with these cars get stuck with bad information. Denso and NGK currently offer spark plugs that are equivalent to the out of production non-resistor AC 45, the W14-U and B4 respectively.

Take you choice of any of the three. If you don't plan on having your car judged I recommend the Denso. I like the "U-groove" ground electode design, and, BTW, Denso plugs have been OE on new Corvettes going back to the LS1.

I'm only changing now because I am afraid the AC's will rust into the heads. I used to use Champs which may have lasted even longer and not rusted in. Stu Fox

Does anyone have experience using AC's marine plugs? They have a stainless steel housing to resist corrosion, but I wonder if they are otherwise the same as their regular plug.

Would these be better suited to cars like Stuart's that aren't driven much and may have plugs installed for a long time?

For example, the original plugs for my '70 LS5 are R43T (tapered seat). The marine version is MR43T, and they also offer MR44T (but not a MR45T...)

Denso and NGK plugs have a more corrosion resistant coating than AC. That's another reason why I recommend them for cars that are not going through Flight judging.

If you put some anti-seize on the plug threads and dielectric grease on the plug boots you won't have any problem changing them even years from now....if that's your concern....
