Here's an interesting item found on eBay. The cap, itself, looks OK and original. What's interesting is the box. I've never seen an authentic GM box that looked like this one. In fact, the box looks curiously similar to some bogus, "look-alike" boxes containing phony GM parts. Usually, those boxes don't actually include the GM, Delco, or AC brand names; this one does. However, note that it reads "AC-Delco". Back in the day when this configuration radiator cap was available, these caps were usually supplied in boxes which simply read "AC" (since the AC Division of GM manufactured these caps). "AC-Delco" as a brand came along later.

Looks like the pre 1970 version with the hollow rivet used with the copper radiator, it will be interesting if it sells.- Top

Re: RC-15 Radiator Cap
The box is of no importance!!!!!!! The friggin price is what floors me!!!!!!!! And it's advertised to sell to a happy NCRS owner of a 67 435HP Corvette! If it sells for that, I want to know who the buyer is so I can stay away from him or her!!!!!!

Re: RC-15 Radiator Cap
I have been into radiator caps for a long time. Started off when I bought a ton of AC caps from a dealer going out of business years ago.
Never did I see a box like the $795 cap on Ebay.
Old JD has a personal problem with the original radiator cap off my 63, the LWC. Original 307 cap that I took off the car when it was last judged and put a fake repo on at a show. Brought the cap home and stashed it. Never to be found again. Been looking for it for several years.
Bought another original from Ebay but it's not the same. Want my original.- Top

Re: RC-15 Radiator Cap
It looks like it could be British or European. Here's another example:

I'd say you got it. However, I wonder how long the British arm of GM has been using the "AC Delco" brand and whether it goes back to 1972 and prior which is when this style cap was in production? Also, I wonder if the cap in question was actually supplied in the box pictured or whether that switch happened sometime over the years. Most likely, if that occurred it was before the current seller acquired it.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: RC-15 Radiator Cap
After RPD (Rochester Products Division) joined AC Spark to be come "AC Rochester", and before GM spit out the auto parts divisions as "Delphi", there was a merger of Dayton's Delco Products division and AC Rochester. The the name of the combined "AC Rochester" and "Delco Products" was "AC Delco Division" for a relatively short time. The divisional name was in conflict with a "brand name" used by General Motors for parts. It was not long after that the "Delphi Automotive" name was created. I don't recall for sure, but "Delphi" could have been a name within GM before the creation of the separate parts company named "Delphi Automotive". (Delphi dropped the "Automotive" some time later, and remains an independent company.)
As far as I know, ALL of this shifting happened after the production of the radiator caps discussed above. However, a more modern box with an older "NOS" cap could be what is offered. On the other hand, Robert G. seems to have already found older AC Delco boxes.https://MichiganNCRS.org

Re: RC-15 Radiator Cap
The RC-15 on my '70 has script that says "Never Open Hot" and "Inspect Spring & Fall", plus it has smaller ears that are a bit more pointed.
Has anyone seen this? Maybe a service replacement? I can post a photo later if needed.
I don't remember specifically, but there's a good chance I installed this cap in the early '90s.Last edited by Mark E.; August 18, 2015, 01:27 PM.Mark Edmondson

Re: RC-15 Radiator Cap
Thanks Mike.
If someone told me 20 years ago that I would one day wonder about the original script on my car's radiator cap, I'd say he was nuts.
But today, maybe I am.Mark Edmondson
