Can You Recomend an Aftermarket Alarm?

I'm thinking of adding an aftermarket alarm. I know any device can be defeated; the idea is to provide some extra protection in a motel parking lot during road trips. I'll also be using a hidden kill switch, factory alarm, The Club, and car cover.

I'm leaning toward units that feature a "one box" design, a single wire connection (plus ground), current sensing and built-in motion sensor. They're small, minimally invasive, and easy to install and remove. I'm not keen about the more sophisticated systems that require multiple splices into the harness and extra door switches. And I'm ok with unlocking the doors the old fashioned way- using a key.

Does anyone have experience with these? Any specific brand recommendations?

I use a great big heavy chain and locks securing the car to a flag pole or big tree.

Glock 17, 4 clips, lawn chair and bad mood works for me. There are some good ones out there, especially with today's technology. Some are one wire jobs and some are wireless. The wireless ones need to be hidden in the car, up high for satellite signal. I researched them for a while a year or so ago, but didn't end up buying one as I figured the chances of the car being out of my sight at any given time were nill to none. Do some online research, the wireless one was nice as you can take it from car to car without disconnecting. ARA

You're not going to stop someone that wants it bad enough. Here's a $8 smart phone app that tracks movement. If you have a extra smart phone between you and wife leave it hidden in the car. At least you can track where it went if someone does makes off with it.

And here is a mobile smart phone, LoJack jammer that makes most of those tracking techniques useless:
XLG15 LoJack, XM Radio, 4G signal Jammer. Jammer Store is one of the leading manufacturers of cell phone signal jammers and cell phone blockers, GPS and WIFI jamming equipment.

There are places to get the device a lot cheaper too. Bottom line - if a pro wants your car then its gone...have good insurance; take normal but not excessive precautions and enjoy driving/traveling. If you want to worry yourself sick then an extra alarm won't cure that.

Chains... Dogs... Guns... You guys are too funny. I just don't know if Fang and a 20' chain will fit behind the seat with my luggage.

I do like the idea of hiding an extra smart phone with a tracking app. And I didn't know about the wireless alarms. I'll look into those.

                Best,
