    Re: AC Compressor

    Jim,
After replacing the receiver/dryer, flushing the system and draining the compressor, I added the amount recommended by the service manual. I believe it was 6 oz in compressor, 3 oz in evaporator, 1 oz in dryer, and 1 oz in condenser.

        Re: AC Compressor

I got the car from the shop yesterday. The shop owner said the A/C system had an airblock and it was also a bit over charged.I don't know what causes an air block. Whiledriving the car home the ambient air temperature was near 88* and the AC on Max,the vent temp stayed at 58* at highway speed with the convertible top down. While idling at stop lights the vent tempwent to about 65*. This morning when theambient air temperature was 81 degrees, idlingat 2000 RPM, and the fan on medium, thepassenger side vent temp was 49*.TheService Manual says at 80* the vent temp should be 47 to 50*.The sight glass started out clear. When I checked it 5 to 10 minutes later itwas foamy. When I turn the fan to high,I lose 4 to 5 degrees vent temp.
Out on the road today with the ambient temp at about 86*,the vent temp stayed right at 58*. Idiscussed with the shop owner the fact that the sight glass goes from clear tofoamy and he said that it is not concerning to him.He assured me the system had the correctamount of refrigerant.
Here are some of the ancillary things I've done trying toget the system cooling as efficiently as possible.
New radiator seals and air dam.
        New hood rear seal
        By passed the heater core
New plenum door and vacuum motor
New passenger side kick panel vent seal andvacuum motor
Is this normal performance for this system?

Trying the a/c with the top down may not be the best test. Put the top on, as cabin temps come down so will the air discharge temps. None of these systems were intended to drop the inlet air 40 or more degrees. Looks like you have a 30 degree drop, not bad in my opinion. Have fun!!
