Interested to know how these two components are described in the current C2 judging manuals, if mentioned at all.
The clutch face hub on early C2 compressors had 6 small holes (a 3/16" dia drill just fits) [top]. The later design has 3 large rectangles [bottom].
The shell on early compressors has a smooth swage (reduction in O.D.) as the shell nears the front mount flange [right]. Later design has a noticeable "crimp" in the same area [left].
Casting dates on original compressors (not a unit rebuilt from multiple parts, please), and the Frigidaire decal date or code would help to nail these changes down.
I have the impression that the clutch holes and the crimp-versus-swage on the shell happened sometime late '65 model year, or even into '66, with the clutch change occuring first.
Opinions ?
