    68 Upper Fender Trim Installation

Can anyone help me with how the upper fender trim is attached to the quarter panel on my 68? These are the small stainless pieces which line up with the wiper door and are against the lower part of the windshield. Every time I turn around, I find a mistake made by the body man that painted my car. Both right and left pieces appear loose and not tight against the quarter panel and there's some sort of black adhesive that was used to attach them and in the summer heat the adhesive is loosening up. I presume there is some sort of clip underneath that fits over the quarter panel, but was any adhesive used in addition to the clip to hold it in place? If adhesive was used, does any one know what it was? Thanks for any replies.

By the way, going back to the body man is not an option, I'm done with him at this point.

Two clips on each piece, and a small screw on the inner flange on most 68s.

    No adhesive.

Thanks Wayne. I appreciate the help. So to be clear, the clips are separate from the trim pieces. Correct? In theory, this guy could have just glued the trim pieces down instead of using the clips.

U clips pinch the panel and hold the trim. Early 68s may not have the small screw in the end.

          Hi Michael,
The clips each have a 'prong' on their lower side.
The 'prong' slips into a small hole drilled in the upper rear surface of the fender and hold the clip in place as the trim piece is pushed on to it.
You do need to be careful of the paint when sliding the trim into place.
          Regards,
          Alan

The clip. (bottom side up) 2 each side.

Two holes for the 'prongs' to catch into. Right side.

2 clips in place. Left Side.
