    Proper coil voltage '67 L71

Having issues with starting. Suspect an intermittent spark situation. It'll turn over and I will smell gas while pumping pedal, but won't fire up until I let the key go from start to run position. At that instant, it'll fire up and run fine.

I checked the voltage at the coil and it reads 3 volts in both the run and start position.

Is this normal or do I have a bad TI amp or a bad connection?

    Thanks!

    Ron

It almost sounds like it could be a bad Ignition Switch, where the internal contact for the RUN circuit is not 12V when key is in START position.

Remove the small gauge Pink wire from the TI harness(White wire) in the engine bay. This removes the Solenoid "R" terminal from the circuit for this test. Leave the large Pink wire connected to the White wire connector. That supplies voltage to the TI module.

Use a testlight or voltmeter on the PINK wire at the Ign Switch(and at the large gauge Pink wire at the connector to the White wire in the engine bay) and see if you have 12V on it while in START position before I'd do anything else. If you don't have 12V on PINK while START, it's a bad switch.

I had a similar TI problem, where it would TRY to fire after releasing the key to RUN after START, but would only kick and never run. That turned out to be a bad Pickup Coil in the distributor. Yours is not the same condition.
