I was privileged enough to participate in a chapter meet as an Observer Judge on the C4 interior team today. We judged three cars and I can tell you that the owners really loved and respected the cars, and the chapter (Central Jersey) was pleased and grateful for their participation.

Not sure about the trouble with black paint on the '84's but certainly a possibility. My red '84, #4935, was delivered to the dealer on May 11, 1983. I ordered the car a year prior to introduction but the first car the dealer received was a white one-a VIN in the 400's. I had first option to buy it, but held out for the red I had ordered. The first builds were either white or silver. Red must have been ramped up into production after the first few weeks. I've been trying to find what was the earliest production '84 in red. (anyone have a lower VIN red?) When new, the '84's were selling for sticker+ at many dealerships.

Mark, a past president of the Texas Chapter once told me to be a part of the esteemed Texas crowd a requirement was ownership of a black or red 1967 427/435 and a bank account with funding in excess of $1 million, otherwise stay home.

Seriously? Maybe he was lamenting a misguided stereotype about NCRS, rather than expressing his own opinion...

I'm glad today's TX chapter is very inclusive and friendly. I certainly haven't owned the most exclusive or prestigious Corvettes but thoroughly enjoy the cars and culture.

I'm owner of a 1990 C4 in fact I have only own this corvette for 1 year but in that year I have come to respect the beauty of engineering that has gone into these cars. I started out looking for a older C3 (a fav from my high school days) but stumble on this 1990 coupe. The car was in great shape for having 59K and still was very much original. Currently I am in the process of tracking down a few factory items that have be replaced over the years, as well as the little missing stuff, to get it ready for judging this coming Spring. Below is a few pics of my white beauty.

Hi Ken,
Thanks for sharing your beautiful car. It looks like it was well taken care of. The engine looks super clean for having over 50,000 miles on it. Especially the valve covers, usually they start to turn color after awhile and oil stains were hard to clean off. I know mine did on my 86 when I had it. That's why I replaced them. (See pics above).

Thanks for the compliment. The engine somewhat clean when I got but I have done a lot of detail work over the summer. One of the major jobs I did was cleaning the suspension and wheel wells. Some previous owner had undercoated the wheel wells. Now who undercoats plastic wheel wells LOL.

My 88 Z52 was my 1st corvette. bought it back in 90 for $16,500, was my daily driver in CT, winter and all. Love that car. The flip up hood was and is so cool!! And now they are at such a great price that you can have so much fun on the cheap.

Replying to an old thread however with the slow activity on C4 posts I guess it could be OK. I respond to the call for C4's. Childhood dream car (I was born at the start of the 1980's) that after years of savings I was able to buy. Even before I joined NCRS and actually the fact I shared my search for a very original one led to the fact I was approached to join NCRS. That was in autumn 2015. Since then I have been enjoying it by driving it and fix the little points that need fixing, or I am trying to learn as much as possible about it's history.

One of the remarkable items is that it was build on Februari 29 of 1988. So it kind of is a lot younger than other C4's.

Here is the catch; I'm not based in the USA. I live in The Netherlands which made the search at the time a lot harder. Found the car in Germany fresh off the boat from... California. My 1988 started live in Arizona, then moved to California and then came pretty much directly to me. Was never registrered in Europe before me. Darkred metallic coupe, automatic, Z52 sport package and G92 sprint rear axle ratio. Further leather seats, climate control and Bose.

Since joining the NCRS I learned so much more about my Corvette and other Corvette's as well. I really like the digging in history what a Flight is essentially about. And the fact that driving there gives you extra points. It's a nice car too look at, but driving is what it was supposed to do and it does it well. I'm at a Chapter 2nd Flight at the moment and working my way to Top Flight. Also earning Judging points as much as I can as I like other Corvette's as well.

I was raised around C1 and C2 Corvettes as a teen. My Dad was a service manager at a large Chevrolet dealer. I Always dreamed of owning a Corvette, but could never afford it. I owned Camaros and a 79 Trans Am. which were fun cars, but they were about as close as I suppose you can get to a Corvette. It was not until a family member made a high mileage 1984 Available to me in my late 50's that I was able to have my own. I always had visions, and still do of those round ball door knobs on the C1 and C2s. Those 160 Speedo's, that flip up hatch with the top stored in, that T handle 4 speed shifter, and that hood on the 65 big block stingray dancing in my head. But I found out, at least in my mind, that that same spirit of those early Corvette is in my 84. When you get in, you sit low. Legs out straight like the C1 and C2 I remember. Mine is loud with flow master mufflers like the off road mufflers on the early Corvette I remember. I have those storage bins behind the seats, like the C2 and C3's I remember. The ride is harsh, not for sissy's , kind of like the C1 and C2's I remember. I do not have to look at an air bag staring me in the face. The C4 Corvette emblem stares me in the face, Kind of like those steering wheels I remember on the C1 And C2, but not as pretty. And on top of it all, it handles beyond my wildest dreams. My Camaro's and Trans Am never drove like that. Sure is not as quick as some of those more powerful older corvettes, but it has enough to put a smile on my face. Personally I think Dave McLellan and his team knew just what they were doing when they designed the C4.The built something of all previous generations right into it.
