    67 Fuel Line Covering

    Hi:
I am replacing the fuel line on my 67, and was wondering if there is a specific location of where the fabric loom is located. I've enclosed a picture of my old fuel line and was wondering if this is what is expected. It seems that at this location (pretty much where the fuel line enters the frame at the kick up past the nylon grommet), it doesn't do much good. The fuel line is close to the bottom portion of the frame in this area, but isn't touching the frame. I was thinking that the exit portion of the fuel line where it comes out of the frame would make more sense (from a chafing point of view). Should I just replicate what was on the old line, and move on? Thanks so much for any comments.

Thomas, Replicate what is on your old line. There's also a spec in the AIM for placement, which will likely match close to your old line. The loom is mainly for anti-vibration, not anti-chafing as I recall. That long length could vibrate if the loom is not there.

I did one a while ago and the AIM measurements are shown here in this post.

The insulation on the line inside the frame is to insulate the line from the heat caused in that area by the muffler and prevent perculation of the fuel during slow driving or stops. Your fuel line is a perfect guide for installing the new line.

Joe, they moved the fuel line and the return line to the inner side of the frame in '68-up so I don't think heat was the reason. That would put it even closer to the mufflers.

I believe it was to prevent vibration and the potential for rattles in the previous years when inside the frame channel where they couldn't put clips. I recall John Hinckley stated this some time ago.......... so please don't shoot the messenger.

Thanks for the responses! I missed it in the AIM.
