Rebuild of Power Steering system on 68 small block

Hi guys, my son and I are about to rebuild the power steering system on my 68 small block roadster. Here is a list of what I think we need. power steering cylinder, pwr steering control valve, pwr steering hose kit for small block, and pwr steering pump.

Are we missing any small stuff that will bite us? Thanks.

The only other parts I can think of is the clip that holds the two hoses together, the belt, clamp for return hose and PS fluid. You might also consider inserting an aftermarket screen inside the return hose to trap any crud in the system. I've seen some folks stick a magnet to the bottom of the pump to do the same thing.

If originality isn't important, consider getting a rebuilt pump, cylinder and valve from NAPA, Autozone or Rockauto. They offer lifetime warranties for surprisingly reasonable prices. These pieces WILL leak at some point, so you can then just exchange it. It's amazing what's being done with off-shore labor these days...

EDIT: This is also a good time to check the tie rod ends, center link, idler arm, rag joint, and steering box.

I think you'll need a pickle fork to disassemble from the car. You'll want a new grommet/clamp for the control valve/pitman arm joint. You'll want a new bushing/washer for the idler arm joint. You'll want new dust shields for the tie rod ends and center link if you are going that far. As for the hoses, remember, you need 2 of them from the pump to the control valve and 2 more from the control valve to the ram.

Good luck with this project. I did this over the past winter. Great project!
