I think you guys are missing the point. Ignore the test times and watch the video from about 4:30 seconds. Basically he says the despite the numbers the Corvette is still their choice for drivers while the Toyota is just a transportation appliance.

250 hp was standard base engine in 66. Went to 300 hp for base in '67.

OoPs! I looked it up after my post and 300 hp was the '66 base engine. '65 was last year for a 250 hp.

I'm not a mid-year guy, so I looked this up in the Black Book. It turns out that the 300hp motor became standard equipment beginning 1966. That left only one optional small-block for that year, the 350hp. In contrast, the 1965 buyer had a choice of five small-blocks- two with mechanical cams and one of those with FI. The era of the big-block started so I guess Chevy pared down the small-blocks to keep the number of options manageable.

Well, at least I won't need to buy a different hat.

If it makes you feel any better the 300HP C2 would have easily won the 1916 Indy 500 (50 Years prior to 1966) when the average speed was 84 MPH. I don't think the 2015 Camry would stand a chance in hell of winning Indy in 1966 when the average speed was 144 MPH.

                  Lets keep things in perspective.

My new Malibu 4 cylinder 200HP is a pretty dead even match for my 84 crossfire in straight line performance. But that is where it ends. Chevrolet made the C4 a real handler when they designed it. As far as ride quality, it stinks. I can't imagine even a C1 riding as bad as a Z51 84. It's torture, but i love it.

1984 Z51... that IS stiff. I read that Z51 softened up a lot for '85, and again in '86. Have you driven a C4 with Selective Ride (FX3, available '89 and newer)? It may come close to your Malibu in ride comfort.

I owned a '90 ZR-1 (which came standard with FX3) and it rode much better than my brother's '87 base suspension convertible. Handled better, too. I still remember the road trip from Los Angeles to Dallas, avoiding interstates. I arrived relaxed, comfortable, and quickly.

Never driven a selective ride Corvette, but they can be expensive to repair. My friend has a 50th with Selective ride and the shocks went bad. That was a $ 4,000 repair. I like the earlier C4's. They are a little less comlicated. As far as the ride on the new Malbu I can't brag enough about this car. It does not ride like any Chrevrolet I have ever owned. Even the interior has features in it, only found on high end luxury cars . I have a family member who owns a AMG. The AMG has what they call auto shut off. When you stop the car the engine shuts off to save fuel. All the new Malibus have the same feature. The AMG also has this soft blue lighting which runs around the whole dash board and all the guages. So does the Malibu. The Malibu has all this rich high looking wood trim inside with fake steeched leather like the AMG's real leather. Chevrolet has come a long way with their new cars. Why anyone would but a Camary, Altama, or Mazda 6 is beyond me. JD Power rated the new Malibu most dependable and best quality in a mid sized car for 2014 and 2015.

Everything's expensive. Except C4s. Just buy a condition #1 car with ultra-low miles for under $15k and you won't have to worry about worn out systems for a long time.

Mike nailed it- His face said it all, look at him when behind the wheel of the Toyota vs. behind wheel of Vette. One puts you to sleep, the other wakes you up. There really is no comparison here other than that.

It's just like when a Tesla shows up at the drag strip- all of the fun is sucked away.
