Re: where to purchase a 63 coupe carpet and headliner.
The ONLY place.....repeat ONLY place to get a headliner that fits and looks something close to the original is Al Knoch. The other vendors have incorrect, crappy parts.... My Corvette America headliner lost adhesion the FIRST trip out in the Florida sun and wasn't even close to original in any case. The AK piece is hard fiber backed with the texture close to the original (but not exact) the CA piece was the typical vinyl headliner glued to a hard plastic shell that prevented the adhesive from working well... Here is some info on my install: http://www.corvetteforum.com/forums/...headliner.html- Top

Alan,
That is valuable to point out and I don't think it was clear on the July 26 thread. I think some people have the mistaken belief that ACC or Al Knoch carpets will get full judging points. But at least for C2 era repro carpets, I think the most knowledgeable interior judges will tell you that the difference in weave between originals and all repros is detectable and will garner a deduct. Can some experienced C2 interior judges confirm this for us?

Gary, Alan is correct on the weave, another area can be the 63 heel pad is not correct its is about a 3/4" to short, Its all amounts to minor deducts in a few areas on configurations. ACC carpet are a nice quality, over all fit is excellent, and very little to cut , Cannot speak for AK carpets on a C2. I have installed AK's carpets in a C3 and much work and had many issues with fitment, and carpet cuts were not the same as the factories.Last edited by Edward J.; July 29, 2015, 06:10 AM.New England chapter member, 63 Convert. 327/340- Chapter/Regional/national Top Flight, 72 coupe- chapter and regional Top Flight.- Top

Ed,
I wasn't really complaining, but I think it's always nice to inform people of situations that not everyone knows about that will invariably and eventually result in a deduct, however small. Some people view unexpected deducts as the end of the world, so it's nice to prepare them for the likelihood of a deduct.

Those of you that went to one of Bill Sangrey's seminars on C2 interiors know that no one makes a carpet that can compete with the original.
Not sure if Bill sure does those seminars. If so you don't want to miss it. John- Top

John,
Thanks for the confirmation. I've been waiting almost 15 years to purchase the carpets I need for my '66, hoping that someone would eventually make a repro set that would be a spot-on match for the original carpet. Not going to happen I guess.
