    68 L36 intake manifolds

This may be old news and may be completely useless info but figured I post it just in case anybody cared. I was wondering the difference(s) between the 3919849(early 68) and the 3937793(late 68) were. Finally got two side by side and I think I figured it out. I once read that the difference was that the 849 didn't have a oil splash shield on the underside but thats not the case seeing as both of mine have the shield. Was looking at them and theyre pretty much the exact same(Looks like they used the same casting molds)and despite the 849 have rougher texture(dirty sand used in the casting process?) the only difference I can see is that the bypass nipple on the 849 is pressed in while the 793 is screw in. First thought that my 793 had the screw in nipple installed to repair a leaky pressed in one but looking around on ebay and it seems this is the difference.

Like I said, not sure anyone cares but heres the pics.

I believe there is also a very slight difference in the area of the choke stove.

      Doug:

Thank you for posting this information.

My car has an 849 intake manifold, dated 9 13 67. The bypass nipple is pressed in and it has an oil splash shield.

My notes indicate that the number 4147 is cast into the bottom of the manifold. I have no explanation for that number. Perhaps someone knows.

Mine says 4237 if that helps.

Joe, I think that change occurred in 69 with the change to the 801 intake.
