I have corvette rear end with numbers that I can not find in the books that I have except for the casting #3899143. The stamp on the bottom pad is AWW018E2. There 2 other casting # of J282 and CN2.

This is my interpretation of the codes:

AW = 3.08 ratio
W = Warren plant
018 = 18th day of the year (assumed to be in the year 1973)
E = Eaton posiitraction
2 = 2nd shift

J282 = casting date Oct. 28, 1972

The "AW" code was used on 1968-1969 and 1971-1975 models. "CAW" is listed for the 1970 models. It appears that your rear axle is from a 1973 Corvette.

Thanks, I got this rear end as a spare for a 1963 vette I bought 2 years ago. I am going to put this one in the car which has been rebuilt with 3:36 gears. The car came with a 4:11 which has a loud whine when driving.
