1961 wheel weights - judging points

Since I've been unable to find zero point deduct weights to buy I've searched through more than 1,000 weights looking for correct weights for my '61. These are my assumptions:
top row - perfect - zero deduct
second row - I think these are Micro but not sure - deduct?
third row - supposedly Micro but I have my doubts - deduct?
bottom row - Micro but both ounces and grams - deduct but how much?

Obviously if you know where I can buy weights let me know.

If you would help me out, what is the source of the information that GM only used ONE source for wheel weights?

You need to check in the new 1961-62 Judging Guide and see what it has to say about wheel weights. I think judges are most familiar with Micro, but it is my understanding that there were around 7 vendors. They need to be period correct and of a size that was used on a Vette.

I don't need to check the 61-2 Judging Guide - common sense and the size of GM tells me that they would have more than one source to achieve competitive pricing and to have a guaranteed source(s). As we have seen repeatedly in recent years, publication in a NCRS JG does not = moses and his tablets.

Let me re-phrase my response to the appropriate person. John, if you seek wheel weights that are acceptable from an NCRS standpoint, check the new 61-62 Judging Guide. See what it has to say on the subject. John chose to inquire about Micro weights and no where referred to one source of GM wheel weights.

              Hi Gary,

I just received a copy of the article you wrote and the update from another member Alan Struck. Interesting reading as I have just found over one hundred pounds of vintage weights. I'm just getting into this so please excuse my lack in knowledge when it comes to the names of each manufacturer...

Here's the list of brand names found..........Micro Bada, Perfect Equipment Company, Plumbium or Speed Clip, LH inside the diamond, as mentioned in your article with the addition of E-Z, Srugl, Hunter, HALKO, USA shaped embossed, Ascot, ACRA, DEKA, GOODYEAR, FIRESTONE, GOODRICH, Sears (I believe these were all made by BADA), HMC, and three odd styles unmarked. Also to add, several heavier 5.0 oz. + sizes, that I haven't cleaned up yet from different suppliers. This is a small random sample of weights, but does show many names not heard on the judging floor.

John, After you have finished your research let me know what you have decided on, more than likely I'll have what you'll need.
These GOODYEAR weights are going to be used on a Shelby.

I have the new judging guide and have carefully read it. Basically Micro was the most common (and 4 of the 5 pictures are of Micro). There is one picture of a "U" weight which isn't among those I've seen. But if the TIM&JG is what the judges use what's a guy to do? Back to my question. Are the "M" weight zero deduct? MC? And the Micro oz/gram weights will cost me some points although I found a number of these.

You are only talking about 1 point deduct out of over 4,000 points.

Yes - but I only got a 91.0 my first time so I'm looking for every point I can get without repainting my car or spending a huge amount of money for a few points. And having been a judge (not NCRS) decades ago if people have done the little things I had a tendency to give them some leeway on other judging points. Will see how it goes over the next few months.

Which means you had 4095 points out of a possible 4500. A correct wheel weight will bring you from 4095 to 4096.

So, now we try to talk folks out of improving their scores? Every point counts, especially when attempting a Duntov!!!

If we could I'd like to get back to my original question. Other than the "1 Micro 1" which weights would be zero deduction points?

                              John,

For 61-62, we have confirmed 2 different wheel weight types. They are Micro and the second was marked with an "U". The Micro marked weights are by far the most common.

Noticed i wrote "confirmed". Does that mean they were the only types, not necessarily, but these are the ones we are sure of. All of this information is in the 61-62 manual.
