Production date vs. Build date ?

My 427 has a build date of 1/25/67 and a production date of 1/27/67. What does production date mean? I'm guessing its "ready for shipping"?

The build date is most likely when the body was built. That is the date on the TRIM Tag. The production date is the date the car was completely finished (motor + body + trim, etc) and ready for shipment to the dealer. That is when the VIN Number is assigned.

For St Louis bodies 1-2 day spread is typical. For AOS bodies this spread is 1-2 weeks.

          Larry -

Actually, the VIN number was assigned, and the VIN plate was created and installed in the first Hard Trim Line assembly station past the end of the Paint Shop; the Trim Tag was also created and installed in the same station (except for A.O. Smith bodies, which got their Trim Tag installed at the A.O. Smith plant in Ionia, Michigan).
