I finally had occasion to check the lock, spare tire tub and tire on my coupe. Lock: failure. Tub: good condition. Tire: Goodyear 7.75-15, 4 ply rated 2 ply, Power Cushion. No nubs on the tread, nubs on the sidewalls. My question revolves around the tire options. I do not have the original option list. When I acquired the car, it had radials with white sidewalls. I have replaced them with newer radials with white sidewalls (the ones that were on it were probably somewhere in the neighborhood of 20 years old).
Would GM have put a whitewall tire in as a spare if the car came with whitewalls? Since this car was a very base model, I would assume that the car came with black walls since that is what the spare is. I'm guessing that the spare is original, or very close to original. It has slight signs of cracks in the sidewalls (I will have to replace it because it couldn't possibly be safe to drive on, even for short distances).
Any insight as to tire applications would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Steve
