    Brake Rotor recommendation please

Looking for good brake rotors for my 66. I've done some research on this forum and seen some of the recommendations.

I was looking on-line at NAPA. They advertise their Ultra Premium rotors as having maximum lateral runout of .002.

Anyone here that has used the NAPA Ultra Premium rotors? Any complaints?

    Thanks,

    Don

It's highly unusual for C2/C3 rotors to actually need replacement. They are not routine replacements as is seen on moderns cars and usually last the life of the vehicle.

The advertised .002" runout is meaningless as the runout of the hub/spindle still needs to be accounted for. This can only be done after the new rotor is attached to the hub/spindle for measurement as an assembly.

Don - I was doing a brake job on my 65 Coupe about 5 years ago and the old rotors had seen better days. Can't remember specifically what the issue was but seem to recall they had been turned down 'a lot'. Went to NAPA and at that time, they had two rotors available, the Italian-made rotors were a bit more expensive but still quite reasonable. I used them and had no issues at all.

The rotors on the track cars my bride and I drive all came from NAPA. Never had an issue with them.

            Hi Don
You can get rotors from the vendors but shipping will cost you. I use a fair amount of rotors and now use NAPA's premium brand. Yup, made in China as just about all of them are now. They don't come with the rivet holes which I like because I transfer the bolt pattern and tap the flanges and spindles to bolt them on. I found the runout will vary a lot but you have to prep the surfaces well before hand. I have used them on original spindles as well as new and again found runout from 001"- to more commonly about 006" Sometimes up to 010" but mostly in the 005-006" range. With minor shimming I can get them under 0025" all the time. No chip needs to be turned in most cases.

China is the major source for cast iron castings these days, especially for SERVICE parts for older applications. The GM rotors are long-since discontinued. I expect that one would find that the current AC Delco rotors for 65-82 Corvettes are sourced from China, too.
