    Help Needed Identifying Radiator Caps

I recently acquired some old radiator caps and I'd appreciate some help in identifying their proper application.

The cap in photo one has a flat rivet and I believe it is correct for either my 72 base engine/automatic, or my 72 LT-1.

The cap in photo two has a concave rivet and I'm not sure what years are correct for that cap.

I have no idea what the caps in photos three and four are for.

    Thanks.

    Mike

Re: Help Needed Identifying Radiator Caps

    Michael,
I'm by no means an expert on caps but I've done some research while getting the correct cap for my 73. The cap ( flat unplated brass rivet) in photo number one looks correct for 70-72 vettes with copper radiators & brass expansion tanks as you stated. The cap (depressed unplated brass rivet) in photo #2 looks correct for 68-69 vettes with copper radiator & brass expansion tanks. The other two I'm not sure of either but I would guess they are for earlier applications before 68. I know they are not correct for 1973 and up. Hope this helps

Jimmy, What cap did you conclude was correct for your 73 and what is the build date of your car?

Photo #3 is stainless and is a service replacement.

Photo #4 is the 15# RC-15 radiator pressure cap configuration stamping used on GM cars with C60 air conditioning from the early 1960s (maybe even earlier) up thru 1965 production. As far as I know, the 15# RC-15 radiator pressure cap with that specific cap stamping configuration was not OE on Corvettes. With 1966 production the cap configuration stamping changed to the configuration like the #2 cap. Pete

The RC-33 in the center is a one year cap and hard to find.

I believe that the cap shown below is correct for 1970 models and probably other years as well.

Don't forget the RC29 that came on at least some of the early 73s up thru at least vin number 8154.
