    C-1 Universal Joint

I changed the U-Joints in my 62 340hp car. When I re-installed the drive shaft with Paragon replacements, the front joint now makes contact with slip spline yoke. Took the shaft back out and noticed a difference from the old to new joint. While the overall deminsion for both old and new are the same (+/- 3.25 inches) the bearing cups on the old (spicer) are 1/8" shorter than the new (spicer). The body of the old joint is 1/4" wider than the body on the new??? The cup on the new joint which now is 1/8" longer extends into the joint and makes contact with the slip spline yoke. Looking at the archives I saw pictures that appear to show my old type u-joint but the post are fairly old. I'm sure would like to find one of the old style joints. If someone could point me in the right direction or knows of a work around please let me know.

    Thanks Chuck (58064)

I believe that the joint you want is made by Federal-Mogul. They are closest to original configuration versus the HD Spicers. You should be able to go to the AC Delco website and search for their U-joint for your car. They are/have been selling the FM u-joints under the GM/Delco part number.

My 1967 mid-year car takes a a AC Delco #45U0145 or GM #89029327 or FM/Precision #269. It has no grease fitting and has black seals. Configuration is very close to originals.

I believe your C1 driveshaft u-joint is identical to the C2 u-joint. But check just in case.

Larry, I will sure follow-up, Thanks you. Would you possibly have the dimension of the bearing cup depth including the seal?? The cup depth dimension for the u-joint I removed is 11/16s" and the replacement u-joint is a spicer from Paragon and measures 14/16s" The Paragon joint works fine for the rear placement. Thanks again for getting back with me.
