Do any of you a/c enthusiasts recommend a Digital (micron) vacuum gauge for use? I see them advertised from $100 to $500, is there certain things to consider? Dutch

Re: Micron vacuum gauge for R-12
Not required/needed for your car. Not a bad idea if doing AC work at home or a small business or commercial/industrial.
When evacuating your car's AC system, just make sure vacuum pump is in good shape with new oil and the manifold gages zero correctly. Then put a trouble light with a 60w bulb under the A6 compressor to heat it up a bit during the evacuation period. The additional heat helps to dry things out better/quicker. The descant in the drier takes care of the rest.
I just recently bought one after 30 years of doing without. It's a top of the line commercial unit used and recommended by the pros ($$$$). Got a good deal, and you can always use MORE tools in your garage. But it's not really needed for auto AC work.
