    Tom,
keep in mind your pistons (casting # 3795337) are STD. bore SP HI PERF and FI pistons for a 62 - 63 Corvette which are GM part number 3799501.
In 1964-65 L79 GM STD bore pistons were PART # 3850137 and in 1966-67 the L79 GM STD pistons were PART #3871208.
The pistons you have were never listed through a GM parts for a L79 engine.

Yes, the PART numbers did change over the years. However, each was supercessive to its predecessor for SERVICE. While the PART numbers did change, the CASTING number may not have changed as the configuration of the pistons is the same. I can't say, for sure, whether it did or not as I can't find any info on it.

        Joe,
I'm pretty sure the piston and the casting numbers changed with each change.
        I'm certain the 3871208 part # pistons had a CASTING # of 3866954.
Don't have time to dig through piston boxes but I'd bet the 3850137 pistons had a unique CASTING # also.

The numbers on the bottom of the SHP domed piston crowns are FORGING numbers (Chevy called them "impact-extruded", which was probably invented by some wordsmith at Campbell-Ewald, but they were forged, by TRW).

They pretty much had to be forged by some outside vendor like TRW. I don't think that GM ever had any in-house aluminum forging operations or capabilities.
