    1964 Fan shroud bolts

Are the six square nuts that are on the back (engine) side of a 1964 fan shroud a "part" meaning they are removed and installed or are they welded to or part of the shroud?

My non A/C L76 shroud is secured to the radiator core support frame with what appears to be five correct fasteners and one odd one. The five correct fasteners are these square nuts on the back side of the shroud with a bolt and lock washer screwed in from the front. The sixth is a stainless or un-rusted metal hex nut where the square bolt should be located.

All the usual vendors list the bolt & lock washer set but no corresponding nuts. The AIM shows the bolts but no nuts.

Does anyone know if these "square" nuts are correct to the car and if yes, are they a stock item that is available from a vendor?

Thanks for your assistance and...... Happy Independence Day to all.

PS - My home is but 2 miles the way the crow flies from Monticello, Thomas Jefferson's home - kind of warms the heart on days like this. God Bless America!

Ed, Have you tried the hardware store( Lowes, Home Depot), I think they have a square nuts or find a top post battery cable end they have a square nut, it maybe slightly different. but if you paint it black it will look like the others.

Not sure what size or configuration you require, but check McMaster Carr. I have purchased some from them before.

Ed, the nuts are square and welded on to shroud. The bolts in the AIM are bright flat tips. At the factory, unofficial change, the pointed tip dark bolt was often used, expect the tip made it faster to install. Have seen many un restored cars with the pointed tips (you will loose something for the pointed tips) I left mine in and will wait for JG to catch up.
Had one square nut come loose, used silver solder to attach again. Look at the threads below for the point v flat discussions

Thanks to all - your replies have confirmed my suspicion, the original nuts are secured, probably spot welded to the shroud. One of mine is gone forever. I'm sure that I can find a near identical duplicate at a hard ware store or make it near identical with a grinding wheel then replace the incorrect hex nut. It appears that I do have the original bolts - the flat tipped type Alan described. Thanks again - just one more thing to take care of as I slowly move toward full originality.
