Until we get the AFB running right on a 64 300 HP engine, is there any problems with installing a 250HP WCFB carb in it's place. I know the throttle valves are smaller in the WCFB carb but it still bolts up without any fit problems. Of course the inlet holes in the 300 HP intake manifold are larger then is needed but again, any problem.

Re: Installing WCFB carburetor on a 300 HP manifold, is it OK
I thought the WCFB has a different bolt pattern than the AFB, but if not and you can hook up the throttle linkage, fuel supply, choke connections, and PCV it should work okay, but will be down on power at high revs due to the much lower flow rating. The other issue is the air cleaner because the WCFB probably has a smaller diameter air horn, so the base is different, but filter and covers are the same.
Before you work on the above, be sure that both primary and secondary butterflies will open all the way without interfering with the manifold bores. Even though the manifold bores are larger, the WCFB bore spacing in smaller and there could be possible interference.

In putting my 300 hp together a few years back I seem to think the air cleaner, and choke will work fine with no alterations. The throttle should have enough adjustment to work. The fuel line to the carb. is different there is no fuel filter mounted on the intake manifold on a 250 hp so that will have to be changed and as Duke mentioned make sure the butterflies clear the manifold.- Top
