    58-59 Convertible Top Warning Label

I just had my 59 judged and had a deduction for the warning label in the wrong place. I purchased the dated top from Al Knoch and the tag is sown just below the rear window on the drivers side. The judge said it suppose to be sown in the welting at the bottom of the top. I disagree, but didn't win the argument. So let's try and clear this up. On 58 and 59's the rear window was sown in and I believe that where the warning label went. On a 60 the window was heat sealed and the tag was sown on the lower edge welting due to the different process.

    Hi Pat,

I'm curious to hear from the masses on this as I expect to be installing the top on my 58 later this summer for judging in October. I have an AK top with the label sewn at the window as you describe. Judging guide is unclear as to location sewn depending on year.

FWIW, assuming '57 would be the same as '58-'59 sewn in windows, the new 1956-57 Judging Guide states "...a rear window cleaning tag was sewn (with single-pass stitching) in the extreme lower left corner of the rear window."

My interpretation is below the rear window not the welting at the bottom. Is AK making them all wrong? I've seem a few lately that are sown just below the window as in Tom's picture. I did call Al and he indicated this was correct for 58-59, but never trust the vendor that selling you something especially a re-pop. In Bob Baird book it shows a picture of a 58-9 but it qualifies that it is a re-production top. Does anyone have a very original car with a photograph that's been judged lately?

          Hi Pat,

A bit of follow up...... Went over to see a friends 58 this weekend before he left for Denver (going for Duntov). He has had Chapter and regional Top flights plus a successful PV. His top label is exactly as shown in the pic I posted (AK top).

Thanks Tom, My previous top was from AK, not a dated one and it had the tag sown in the same place. Someone need to get with Tim Mickey & Co and make sure that the language is clear in the new manual whenever that happens

Double-check the wording on your new AK top before installing to ensure that it reads correctly per the JG. Al Knoch had to send me about a half dozen tops before they got the wording right.
