    Re: Rear end

I 2 0 should mean casting september 2 1970, AW is prefix for 3:08 posi , there should be a letter after the AW ,most likely a G for detroit gear and axle, the 335th day of 1970 and e should mean eaton posi carrier. It appears to be a 1971 axle. Hope this helps. Mark

Here's a pic of the non-original 3:08 posi in my 65 Coupe. The 'W' designation after the 'AT' I believe stands for another manufacturing plant, Warren.

All 1963-79 Corvette rear carrier assemblies were manufactured at Warren, MI.

The reference source I used suggested Detoit gear staring 1971 but after looking at a number 71 and up rear ends I have , they all have W for Warren, Mi. One of them had no plant stamp designation. I have many 63 -79 rear ends and they are all stamped with many combinations of single and paired letters and numbers held at various angles. It looks like the stamps where hand held and quickly done for i d . Neatness didn't count.
