1962 corvette 4-speed shifter ball

How do you identify an original shifter ball for a 1962 corvette with 4-speed?
If memory serves me correctly it has something to do with the threads.
Either it has an insert or the threads are in the material without an insert.
Can anyone help?

I can't specifically address your shifter ball however can for a '63. The shifter ball (original) on a '63 has a distinct parting line in the middle around the ball....repro's don't. The threads on a '63 ball are a metal insert.....yours very well could be the same for both.

A 62 shift ball has no metal insert for the threads, doesn't have a parting line, and is white. Otherwise it looks like a 63 knob.
