My February 9, 1971 build-date car has a gas cap with a scalloped edge and a red plastic plate attached reading OPEN SLOWLY CAUTION. In other words it matches what the Technical Information Manual & Judging Guide refers to as the correct caps for "early 1971" -- Fig. E 16.3. Anyone have any insight into how far into 1971 production these caps were used, and when they switched over to the version with OPEN SLOWLY CAUTION embossed in the metal, with a smooth edge, which apparently was also used on the '72s?
1971 gas cap -- when was the switch from scalloped edge to smooth?

Re: 1971 gas cap -- when was the switch from scalloped edge to smooth?
1971 #16798 and #21467 (last week of production) have the red label style caps. Both Bow tie low mileage cars. Hopefully the new Judging Guide will address this.- Top
