C1 Powerglide shifter lever hitting back of opening in the floor.

Is it possible to shorten the throw of the shifter lever. The lever hits the back of the rectangular opening in the floor.

    Regards,

    Bob

What year are you talking about? Is it the right year transmission? Is it the correct linkage for that year? Sounds like the linkage rod might be too short. Does it go into gear ago?

      Bob:
I assume you have a Powerglide with the Park in the bottom position. When I bought my '61 28 years ago, I could not get it to shift to Park. I had to get under the car with my wife at the shifter to find out why. As Terry said the linkage rod may be too short or something else is out of place. After all those years, I don't remember what I did to fix it but is working fine now.

        Bob:
If you have a copy of the ST-12, there is an adjustment procedure for the bell crank on Page 7-4. As I now recall, this is what I did when my '61 Powerglide would not go into Park. It required only a very slight adjustment.

Also make sure that your transmission rubber mount isn't crushed from the weight and age. I had that problem when I first bought my 59. Changed the mount and it fixed the problem

If the PG is in your 57 be sure it is adjusted correctly or the transmission will destroy itself in a short time.
