    1967 alternator pulley

Just tidying up the last few things before I do the initial fire up on my L71. Installed the alternator yesterday, and I am sure it has the correct deep grove pulley, and I ordered all both mounting brackets, brand new for this application, but it seems like the pulley is too far forward. Any suggestions?

    Dave,
I don't know what, if any, affect this will have but I believe the top bracket on your alternator is on the incorrect side of the boss. If I remember correctly, the bracket is on the backside (firewall side) of the alternator boss with the bolt and washer inserted from the back side.

Dave, I believe you have the incorrect pulley. Appears to be too thick, which would move the belt forward and misalign with the water pump pulley. Attached are photos of my 67 BB. Note upper bracket position on the alternator.......

Thanks guys, I had the top bracket, bolted to the block instead of the tab on the intake, but the pulley is still off, I think I need the one you have Stephen, strange though, I see this pulley in pictures of other L71 cars.

Dave, the pulley you show in your picture is only used on big blocks with power steering. If you don't have power steering (or A/C) you need THIS ONE.

Dave, look at AIM UPC N40 A7 and you'll see the belt assembly "order" where a PS car drives the alternator, thus a "thick" pulley, as the alternator belt is forward of the PS belt.

As others have noted you have the incorrect pulley on your alternator, you have the one used with PS applications. The correct (thinner) pulley is 3829387-AI for non-PS cars, as in the photo below of my alternator that Ken Bruno restored. Mounting is as shown in my picture, bracket behind alt boss extending down to intake
