Lifting Eye Color for Automatic

In reading the judging manual for 68 - 69, the lifting eyes were attached to the engine and bell housing and
then sprayed engine orange at the engine plant. While this is understandable for stick shift cars, automatic
transmissions were not sprayed and should show no overspray - leaving them natural.

My question would be what color should the back lifting eye be since an automatic transmission was not painted
and was attached in natural finish at St Louis plant.

Mike, There should not be a rear lifting eye on a 73 automatic. I know the judging Guide says it is there however that is incorrect.

Mike -- you don't tell us if you have a Small Block or Big Block. Aluminum heads make a difference as well.
This will work for 1968 to 1972:
Small Block/M40 = No rear lifting eye
SB/manual trans = may be some orange overspray on rear lifting eye, then again maybe not
BB/iron heads/all transmissions = orange rear lifting eye
BB/Al heads/all transmissions = unpainted rear lifting eye.

Thank you for responding to my thread. I have a SB with M40 Trans.
Based on your replay, I would not have a rear lifting eye. Would that also
be the same for the front? Judging manual is very unclear in this regard.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
