    RobertShaw Thermostat source

Does anyone know of a source for a Robertshaw 330-180 brand or design thermostat or a suitable replacement brand and model number? I need one for my 1964 L76.

Various blogs imply that "Mr. Gasket" equivalents are made in China and are really not all that equivalent. So I am inclined to rule that option out (unless members can attest to satisfactory performance). Summit Racing lists a FlowKooler brand "Robertshaw series" 330-180 but shows them as "not available" (been that way for a while).

Again - any recommendations for a source or a suitable alternative to a Robershaw 330-180?

    Thanks
    Ed

    Ed,

You can buy it direct from the manufacturer here:

Also, Speedway Motors has a version of it that offers improved high RPM flow here:

Joe, Harry -- thanks. I checked FlowKooler as a source, the website indicates they are "temporarily out of stock" - hopefully it will be just a temporary thing - I'll give them a call later today.

I checked the product available from SpeedwayMotors - they state that their thermostat is a "modified" version of a Robertshaw unit - not sure what is involved in the "modification" - they claim it is designed for high RPM / performance use - am a little leery about that.

For anyone thinking about getting a Robershaw 330-180 thermostat - take note. I called FlowKooler this morning and talked to a company executive (he answered the phone) to inquire about the availability of RS 330-180s. He said that they are at zero balance but have several hundred on back order from the manufacturer but doesn't know when they will come in.

He also said that the 330-180 is one of their fastest moving thermostat and that it does not seem to be a high priority for the manufacturer. When they do come in FlowKooler will fill back orders first - so if you want or need one suggest placing an order now.

Without asking, he said that production at the factory was held up for a while because the manufacturer moved the operation back to the US, as they were having quality control problems with overseas operations - but he didn't say where the plant was overseas.

I've done quite a bit of research the past 3 to 4 days trying to find a RS 330 - FlowKooler proved to be the most promising and reliable. Good luck

Robertshaw used to be a major employer in my area. In the 80's they closed down and moved the business to Mexico.

Stant makes a good thermostat and it's made in USA.

Also as I recall when the Robertshaw fails, it fails open. This is good.

Pete, NAPA sells Stant. Car Quest does also. But I don't use their gaskets. I use the GM ones with the seal on both sides even though they are the wrong color. No leaks. John

This is a follow-up comment on the availability of Robertshaw 180 degree thermostats.

FlowKooler apparently has received a shipment of Robertshaw 330-180 thermostats from the manufacturer and is filling back-orders. When I placed an order a few weeks ago I was informed that they were out of stock. This morning I received an e mail from FlowKooler indicating that my thermostat has been shipped.

And.... Harry's comment is correct - unlike a factory stock unit, the Robertshaw thermostat does fail in the open position. Don't know if other after-market brands do that or not.
