67 Wiper Switch Operation (Which direction??)

    HI:

I just took delivery on a 67 coupe (deposited in my driveway early this AM)….

I had checked the car out prior to buying but I don’t know how I missed this.

When operating the wipers… I have to turn the knob “COUNTER-CLOCK-WISE”…. To operate the wipers…

The operators manual indicates that you turn the switch “CLOCKWISE” to operate the windshield wipers --- they work just fine on both speeds but this does not seem correct.

Several sites offer a “67 only wiper switch” – SO – I am wondering what is going on here? Wrong switch??

Any 67 owners who can "definitively" tell me that the switch turns clockwise vs counter clockwise???? I am assuming here that the previous owner used some kind of aftermarket bogus switch during restoration --- Any ideas?

    Regards
    Bill

    Bill,

Yes, the switch and ALL C-2 wiper switches turn clockwise to the on position.

Can you push the switch and the wipers come on as well as squirt water?????

67 switches are available from all the parts houses so don't worry.

      Thanks Joe...

Yes the push button and washer function works ---

As I said ...my guess is this is an after market part that is not correct for the car --

Clearly, it will not pass a PV and technically is also wrong for a basic ops check (at least I think so)..

and --- to your point...my '66 worked clockwise so I was a bit taken aback when this went the opposite direction!

      Thanks again

      Regards
      Bill

Bill, Congrats on the new acquisition. We need some pictures!

Since the switch is made to switch ground(via switch case) something may be wired wrong. Here are some photos of the backside of a '67 wiper switch and a operation chart. Check the wiring on the back and also on the wiper motor for the correct color codes to the AIM wiring diagram. I'm thinking if wires to Term#1 and Term#3 are reversed, it may act the way yours does.

          Thanks Rich ---

I wondered about that too since it is clear (to me any way) that the switch has detents in it for the two speeds and one could assume if the wires were reversed either at the switch or at the wiper motor the activation sequence would reverse...

Using the wiring diagram (illustrated version) I was able to trace the wires back to their connection points and the wiper motor connection could be the issue -- the only thing I noticed (on the diagram) was that the wiring plug is keyed where it enters the motor -- and technically can only go in one way --- but I will have to investigate that on the car later today --

I need to get out and follow this on the car -----

          Regards
          Bill

If you have a repro wiring harness, insure that the wires are installed in the correct cavities in the connector.......

              OK Short update----

I reversed the Yellow / Brown / Blue connector at the pump motor --- and that solved the problem --- not sure how they managed to wedge that thing in there --- just one of many backward wiring stunts I have found on this car so far ---

              Thanks for all the help

              Regards
