Hi. I am trying to locate the location where you install the 2 horn mounting brackets for a 1961 Corvette. Appears that someone glassed over this area and I have nothing to go by. Also what tool do I use to install rivets to this mounting plate and what side do the heads go on. Assembly manual not much help on this. Do horns face up or down looking thru grille. Thanks Don.

Re: 1961 Corvette horn mounting bracket location
The horns' trumpet openings ALWAYS face down to prevent rain or wash water dripping into them...
Here is where the horn's bracket bolt should go through the fiberglass....front and backside views...Attached Files- Top

Re: 1961 Corvette horn mounting bracket location
Don, Here are a few photos of a '61 where the plates mount. They are missing on this one, but you can see the holes. The plates mount above the holes as pictured, so the bolt for the horn keeps it in place along with the rivets. The rivets get peened from the top against the plate, shown on the left side below but plate is missing. The horns point downward looking through the grille.

If you remove the headlight buckets(if installed), it will be easier to get the mounts in place.

Re: 1961 Corvette horn mounting bracket location
O.K. Thank you very much. I was looking for holes for mounting plate and could not find anything around where the present horns are mounted. The front end was damaged at some point and the whole area got glassed over. Car was stripped down early on and was a drag car so I have many little things missing or wrong that I need to repair or correct. Replacement horns were just bolted down lower where someone drilled holes thru the fender well and their brackets were bent different. Located original pair of horns and just had them restored. This solves this part of the puzzle. Again thanks to all for this help. Am sure I will be back asking questions again as we progress , Don- Top

Re: 1961 Corvette horn mounting bracket location
O.K. I took a look under where the mounting plates should go. Yes removing the headlight buckets are the way to go. Question, I do not know where to mount these plates as all traces are gone. Does anyone have measurements to go by or possibly looking thru grille how much of the horn should I see. She is not a trailer queen but want her as accurate as possible.Again thanks.- Top

Re: 1961 Corvette horn mounting bracket location
By the way, the 441 goes on the right, and the 442 on the left. I realize that is contrary to the "odd numbered parts on the left, even numbered on the right", but that's the way the factory did it.- Top

O.K. Great dose anyone have a location (measurements) where the mounting plates attach. Someone sent 2 photos and I am trying to reference it's location up under there. I have nothing to go by up under there. Thanks.- Top

Re: 1961 Corvette horn mounting bracket location
Thanks to all on this site for your help and knowledge. I appreciate it. I located the LH fender well spot where the horn plate once was! Yes really buried up there. Removed the poor glass patch someone made years ago and now have the correct location. Using a cardboard template to install the RH plate in. Another repair job to bring her back to the way she should be!- Top

Re: 1961 Corvette horn mounting bracket location
Thank you. I very much admire the level of restoration on the Corvettes and for that matter all cars done at shows. In our case the Corvette never had a chance since it was raced from the get go. The 1st owner was a drag racer and beat her hard the put her away wet!! The second owner knew he had too much to handle and sent her on her way. The 3rd owner who dragged her continued to strip her down of almost all parts not needed which I am still trying to repair as we go along. If it was not needed it was chopped or ripped out!! I purchased it as a roller with many boxes of parts cast off lying in a garage and or shoved in a back yard. The process is painful because every time I try to do something correct something else is either wrong does not fit or was repaired poorly. Our next nightmare will be the doors. They just ripped things off in there to gut the doors for weight. We take it one step at a time. In doing the horns some one siliconed the headlight buckets to the body and nut and bolted the buckets in place. What a mess but now that will be repaired properly. Paragon is my go to source for many parts. Again thanks for all the help!!- Top
