LeMans: Corvette drops to second place in GT after leading eariler

The #64 Corvette is behind the leading Aston Martin by just over a minute halfway into the 13th hour after leading earlier. The third place Ferrari is 31 laps down.

Lap times are just under 4 minutes.

The #63 Corvette, had a stuck throttle and crashed hard into the wall, the car was unable to start the race.

The corvette is trailing an Aston Martin?
Does Aston Martin even make race cars?
I must have missed that memo.

there I go again, not paying attention,,,,

you must have missed lots of memos. Aston has been making race cars for a very long time. For just the last 10 years or so they have been racing in the GT class as well as the prototype class. The GT class car is the DBR9 (or was, I have not watched this year yet). In other various series races you will see the Vanquish or other variants but they are very prolific in road racing with factory cars or privateer teams such as Gulf Oil running there cars.

i just searched google. This year Gulf is running a Aston Martin Vantage.

Its too bad they do not show the entire race on TV anymore. They have a hour or so here and there but right now they are showing soccer on the channel that carries the race by me....

Yes, 17th overall. First in class. Too bad the Fox Sports one TV cast didn't even mention it or show it at the finish. Nothing but Patrick Dempsey.

I wondered about that. A second Corvette was not listed in the standings, so I thought maybe they only brought over one car. Did the stuck throttle/crash occur during the warmup laps?

Congratulations to Corvette Racing! The C7R started out with some reliability issues, but they appear to be solved.

Duke, it happened during the second qualifying session, the car never made it to the starting grid

This is one of my favorite clips from the race:

And it appears #64 Corvette won the GTE-Pro class, correct?

That's great, but the competition may be tougher next year, as Ford has announced they will enter their new Ford GT in this same class. They are preparing to open sales of the Ford GT soon to establish homologation and qualify before next year's LeMans race. So that will be a great race next year!

I heard that a rock got in the #63 car foot box and somehow 'stuck' the throttle.

The more competiton in GT the better as far as I'm concerned, so welcome Ford, but a new team always has a learning curve to climb. Corvette Racing has over 15 years experience.

Attrition can take a big toll in endurance racing. The fact that a lone Corvette won against a couple of Astons and nearly a half dozen each Ferraris and Porsches is quite an accomplishment.
