1968 Wiper Issues: wiper door not closing

Have a Jan '68 car and when the wiper switch is turned on, I have to cycle the switch a few times to get them to come on. The door promptly opens but it takes a few cycles for the wipers to start functuing. I have changed the switch a few times and wonder if it has a bad ground and takes some time to ground itself.

Second issue is that they park but the door does not close all the time. Often times, the door starts to close with an initial movement but then stops. If I cycle on/off numerous times, it eventually closes.

I just went thru this with a 71 and I found it was the switch. I bought switches from different vendors and they looked like they are all made by the same source. I went to a vendor and looked thru his inventory and of the 10 in stock only one was good and that one works fine. The switch works by completing the ground and that also signals the door valve to open or close. Try to find an original Delco switch if you can. The switches out there now are junk.

Thanks, Joe. I agree that all of the repro switches are of poor quality. I have tried a few all 3 have had the arm pull out. I guess my only bet would be to find a nice original unless you know of another source. Appreciate your help.

Just went through the same agony that you are experiencing with your wiper.
The switches that you get now from most vendors are junk.
I ended up finding an original Delco switch on Ebay and what a difference.
Wiper door functions perfectly and the wipers do exactly what they are suppose to do when
you want them to. The original switch was pricey, but well worth it when compared to the
aggravation previously.

Looks like I need a new NOS switch. Thanks for the suggestion.

On the closing of the door, the wipers shut off and park properly but the wiper door does not close. It will close if I take the plug out of the end of the vacuum canister. Thanks for any suggestions on troubleshooting.
