I own a 1972 red Corvette convertible with red interior (not the deluxe model). The carpet is faded and aftermarket and I am wanting to replace it with the closest to original that I can find. What manufacturers would you suggest? I replaced the soft top on my car and ran into issues with Al Knoch and would rather not use that brand unless I have to. Also, is there a color code for the red color that the carpet is supposed to be? I have looked at some samples and am seeing some color variations. Thanks!

Re: 1972 red carpet
Ashley,
Al Knoch, Corvette America, Auto Custom Carpets and Mid America are your only suppliers. Romeo Engineering doesn't count unless you want to wait years for your order to be fulfilled.
I would ask all 4 for samples of red, and choose your color from them. I've had reasonable success with all of them, but none of them is any closer to original than any other.
The key is being sure they send you the correct one for auto vs 4 speed. The mold for the passenger's side is different!

Re: 1972 red carpet
Thanks Patrick!
Do you know the correct original color code of red applying to the carpet for a 72 non-deluxe interior? For instance, I have samples from Auto Custom Carpets. In the loop pile carpet, there is a 2-005 red and a 41-6364 medium red. The carpet currently in the car is not original and is faded enough that I can't tell for sure by comparing the sample to what's in the car. This car is a 2004 Top Flight winner and I'm just trying to keep it close to that condition. If I knew the details of the original carpet, It might lead me in the right direction in purchasing the replacement carpet.
Thanks,
Ashley Eagan

Re: 1972 red carpet
I would get samples from all the companies and compare them to an original car. If you have to, ask here on the board for one with original red carpet and see if you can have them match them. That is by far your best bet.

Re: 1972 red carpet
Ashley,
When you go to match the carpet you may want to use the carpet under the seats since this area will be less faded compared to exposed areas. Other good areas to look at are under the center console or sill plates.
