Should the tie rods be unpainted? are there any other items on the front suspension that were not painted?

Re: 57' front suspension
Harold, I believe all of the details are discussed in the latest '56-'57 Judging Guide. I don't have the latest one.
Do you have one?

they are painted - supposedly the entire front suspension assy was painted black before it was installed onto the frame.1954 Corvette #3803 - Top Flight 2012, Bloomington Gold 2012,

Re: 57' front suspension
Thanks Chris, I had point deductions at the Arizona Regional under front suspension & steering with the written comment "Tie rods should not be painted". and also "stabilizer links should not be painted". the Tech Manual and Judging Guide says "the front suspension and cross member assembly was sprayed with black out paint after assembly but before mounting to frame". Not sure what to do just want to get it right.- Top

Re: 57' front suspension
If you read Nolan book and look at the front end photos - especially those on the assy line - it appears to me the entire thing was painted prior to installing it into the frame - which makes sense.1954 Corvette #3803 - Top Flight 2012, Bloomington Gold 2012,

Re: 57' front suspension
Harold,
Not sure how much more information you want on '57 front suspension paint?
"Front suspension and cross member assembly was sprayed with black out paint that usually covered the identification paint marks after assembly, but before mounting to the frame. Some suspension and cross member assemblies are normally a higher gloss black than the chassis. Steering box is natural or black."
IMHO the 56-7 JM defines front suspension paint fairly susccintly.

Re: 57' front suspension
i absolutely agree. I guess if I get the same judge in the future who deducted 3 points and writing "Stabilizer bar links should not be painted" "tie rods should not be painted" I will have an argument on my hands. just thought maybe somebody knew something that would exonerate the judge but I guess not,- Top

Re: 57' front suspension
Harold,
Deductions that are contrary to the JM should be discussed with the Judges and the JM reference shown to the Judges. If there's a question the push is supposed to go to the owner. You always have the option to discuss (not whine nor complain) the deduction with the Team Leader.
