I am looking for help/advice on refinishing the front anti-roll bar on my '67 L79 coupe. The judging guide says, "the bar is natural forged finish with a blue-gray appearance". I have gone through the archives and haven't come across a recipe for duplicating that look. I know the black phosphate/oiled look I am doing on fasteners would be wrong as is a 'cast blast' finish. I've sandblasted the bar and clearly that raw finish isn't right. Has anyone tried gun bluing (or a variation on that)?

Re: Anti-Roll Bar Finish?
James,
Per a fellow members advice I just completed mine. After blast/clean I used Perm-Blue gun blueing and CRC SP-400 corrosion inhibitor. The Perma-Blue darkened up the bar considerable and gave it a very slight blueish dark grey color. Sprayed the SP-400 on and have let it sit. just finished this yesterday. i am going to wipe it down and reinstall this week. I will try and get a picture posted for you on the results. As a note I ordered both products from Amazon. Fast shipping and I don't think the price can be beat as I did not have to leave my seat!John Seeley

Re: Anti-Roll Bar Finish?
James I used gun blue on my 65 . It looks like dark forging finish . I then brushed some old GM chassis black I have had for 20 + years on the front and allowed it to run and drip as the factory did . The black is only on the center from the curved areas inward . The final treatment I use on most of my unprotected metal was a good coat of cosmoline then a good wipe down after it dries .- Top

Re: Anti-Roll Bar Finish?
Bill and John, thank-you for your responses, I'll try the gun bluing. Bill, was your car judged with this treatment and did the bar pass without point loss? I saw the point about black-out overspray on the bar and will do that as well. I have a good preservative- product that tool and die makers apply to dies before they go into long term storage and am using that on all raw metal. Thanks again. Jim Baker- Top
