    1970 door sill plate

Are these used originals or used repro's that I can scrap? I cannot find any part numbers or manufacturing marks on them.

Why scrap'em? They look pretty nice to me. Would be great for an upgrade on a nice original car. More originality points than whats available now I believe.

I agree. What I see doesn't look too bad.

How can you tell if it's a repro? Thanks for the lesson

I agree, too. If the rest of them is as nice as the section pictured I bet a lot of guys would love to have them.

My intent was to find out if they are originals or repros. If original (as they seem to be) I will keep them, if repros I would get rid of them.

As Krieger has asked above, how do you tell the difference between originals and repros?

                Thx,

Mike, Not positive, but probably by the number of grooves in between the ribs. That's the case on the 1963 reproductions that I learned about when judged several years ago.

                    Mike,

The three large ribs are a tad wider on originals and generally the screws holes are drilled so the large ribs are hit with the drill bit as well on originals.

The paint on repros also has a hard line in terms of where the black begins and ends. Originals looked to have used a mask and have a softer paint transition line.

I have seen repros that are so close that if painted correctly one would need to see the repros right next to the originals to see the difference.

Hopes this makes sense. I vaguely remember a post by maybe Alan Struck showing the differences side by side.

Search in Technical Discussion under "sill plates" and a post discussed the sill plates with lots of pics. Post was started by me.

                      Hi Mike,
Here's the picture from the 'Sill Plate' thread Bill mentioned.
I'm not sure how typical my original sill plates are or how typical the reproduction in the photo is of the sill plates available.
                      Regards,
                      Alan
