    Big Block Fan Clutch

Does anyone have any experience with the current reproduction big block fan clutch (not the coil style) being sold by Long Island Corvette Supply?

    Thanks Chris

    Re: Big Block Fan Clutch

Chris - I've been helping my neighbor get his 66 425 horse Coupe back on the road after a long body-off and then a couple years of just sitting. A couple weeks ago, we got it primed and running again and found a few issues. One of them was finding the existing clutch fan unit wasn't hooking up as expected, even after prolonged idling and the coolant temp hitting around 205+ checked with an IR gun since the sending unit is making the dash gauge read less than ~160. He ordered up a new fan clutch unit and it turned out to be a Schwitzer (sp?) with the flat plate up front. Don't know how many different manufacturers there are but his unit came from Paragon...I believe. Was there something in particular you wanted to know about that part?

Wanted to make sure they perform per original specs. I have purchased more than one reproduction part that was less than correct.

They are set up to be fully engaged @ 165 degrees and tested up to 8500 RPM. Each one is spin balanced. Internally they use a different bearing setup (so the shaft can't pull out or wobble) and a slightly different clutch system. In other words, they meet or exceed original specs. Any other questions?

Thanks Ken Anderson, that's what I was looking for! I like when repro part looks correct, but its a must that they work properly!

Chris look at the long island online web site in section 24 part # 30B click on the fan clutch and then details it shows an orig. & repro . the repro does not have the pat nos. or dates . If your not going to be judged its a good deal . I dont know what the deduct would be if judged.

We never intended to put on the patent #'s and dates are all over the map-but it works better than any GM service part ever did. They were set to 225 degrees & that's hot!

Ken Im not saying its a bad part ,It looks great and sounds like it is much better than the original . I am just pointing out that it could loose some points if judged .
