66 Power Brake Booster Mounting ?

Why does the Power Brake Booster MOUNT on the Bottom by using The Welded Bolts Facing into the Firewall and secured by Washers and Nuts under The Dash VERSUS the Manual Master Cylinder in same exact spot? That is the Opposite Welded ? Bolts under the Dash and Washers and Lock nuts on the Engine side ?? (Im not talking about the Top Bolts into the Wiper cowl ) Was this Design for weight or ??just curious Thanks

    Neil -

That's just the way the design was - in production, the pedal support bracket used with power brakes just had two holes at the bottom for the studs on the booster, and the support bracket used with manual brakes had two splined studs pressed-in at those two locations that went through the firewall and got nuts and washers on the engine side. For the manual-to-power conversion, you have to knock out the two studs at the bottom so the booster studs have holes to go through.

Thanks for reply So there is no real way to tell if a manual Master to a later date Power booster conversion happened OR possibly visa versa if pressed studs were placed back for whatever reason to convert at a later date to Manual Master From Original Power Booster..... ???Both used the Same upper pedal Nuts and studs that are in place with both systems no matter what? Correct? Thanks

        Neil -

The upper pedal support-to-firewall attachments were the same between power and manual brakes.
