1969 Windshield Wiper Door Mechanism Finish

I am doing a frame off on a 1969 convertible and have started to work on the wiper door mechanical part. I have stripped the mechanism and have few questions: 1. Mine had some 'overspray' of body color but I assume that was due to a past repaint? 2. Should the finish be a flat black paint as specified in the TIM&JG for Wiper Arms?
    Thanks for any information? Steve

    It should be semi gloss.

Steve, If I recall my 72 had light over spray on the door mechanism. I think the door was in place during painting.

somehow I remember the door and grill not being on the car when painted.
if it was, they have to remove it to get the wiper arms on and and glass in, and it be hard as heck to do the blackout in the wiper bay.

now - it may have been the case that the wiper door mechanism was bolted in before body color and blackout.
my very original 72 had a little overspray on the end mounting brackets, but that was all.
it was in its factory lacquer paint when I got it from the original owner.
but who knows - their might have been touchup done at the factory or the dealership.

Bill, Your correct, the wiper door was painted separately. It is in the 70/72 judging manual.
