I have a 1994 LT1 and the horn blows when you pull on the steering wheel getting out and seems to blow when you grab certain parts of the wheel. I was going to take the air bag cover off and I can't seem to get the torx screws loose and I am afraid I might strip them. Any ideas on the horn short, is taking the air bag cover off the right way to go? Any help on getting those torx screws out? thanks

The horn contacts in the wheel behind the air bag can become very brittle and disintegrate over time. After you remove the four bolts holding on the air bag you will be looking at them.- Top

Re: 1994 steering wheel horn short and removing air bag cover
Thanks very much Keith - I went to the store and got a shorter torx driver, got the screws out and the horn buttons were totally disengrated. Now I just need to find the part number replace them and I won't be randomly honking as I enjoy the ride. For the benefit of anyone else it is a torx (star) T30 driver that fits the screws.- Top

I got them much cheaper at Corvettes at Carlisle from a vendor named Smart Parts. I do not think they have web store- Top

It's a good think this switch is available in reproduction. It's no longer available from GM or Delco. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

The switch, GM #17999094 aka Delco #D1774A, is no longer available. Otherwise, I don't know what part you're referring to.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

I'll be curious if they actually deliver it and if it's in GM or Delco packaging. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

I expect that the "reproduction" sold on eBay is very likely a part that's manufactured by the original supplier to GM. I just can't see anyone else tooling up now to manufacture this part.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 1994 steering wheel horn short and removing air bag cover
Does anyone know the size of the nut holding on the steering wheel on a 1994 I am going to have to buy a socket. It looks like its 20mm or 21mm? I am assuming it is metric as none of my standard sockets fit it.- Top
