    Re: C-2 floor mats

For carpet style floor mats: (I don't use the clear ones -- they slide around and look goofy--to me any way)

I use a company here in Georgia called GG Bailey. They do custom mats that fit C2's (and other cars) --- the colors are a bit limited but if you need black or a few other basic colors they can help.

The biggest plus with these mats is that they use a soft foam backing to keep the mat from moving around --- the other brands I have tried have the hard rubber nubs on the back-side ---- they tear up the carpet pretty quickly so I will not use them any longer. The Bailey mats also come with carpet holders --- but again I don't use anything that could possibly damage the carpet --- you really don't need the holders with the foam backing on the mats.

I get a simple black mat with no frills --- works great and looks really good ---

Here is a link to the GG Bailey site in case you are interested.... (copy it into your browser) ----

GGBAILEY makes premium, factory-quality car and trunk mats, home mats and pet mats. We're dedicated to making the finest automobile car mats in the world.

      Re: C-2 floor mats

The part number for the 1963-1967 clear vinyl mats is 985822 as shown in my Chevrolet Custom Features Accessories for 1966 Confidential Price Schedule (effective January 1, 1966) as well as my 1964, 1965, 1966, and 1967 Chevrolet Parts Catalogs in Gr. 15.286. It is odd that GM # 985822 is listed in my 1967 Chevrolet Parts Catalog (Apr. 1967) in Gr. 15.286 but is also listed in the back of the same catalog in the Parts History Index as being removed from service in May 1966. Apparently the stock in the warehouses was gone and not replenished in May 1966 but the part number was still listed in the April 1967 parts catalog.

Here's some photos of his NOS clear plastic set that member Mark Nagy sent me for posting. The part # matches that shown by Dave L. (2nd page, near bottom) # 985882. Attached pics show the number cast into the plastic, near the edge.

Dragging up this old thread to inquire about Black Mats ... we all know that mats were not factory but dealer option. That said .. most discussion is around the clear type mats. I have a survivor 66 C2 that has what appear to be original (as back in the day) black mats with Chevrolet emblem precise cut for the C2. Question is ... did dealer offer both black and clear??

            Peter,
I guess that anything is possible but if you look on my May 31, 2015, post showing the 1966 Chevrolet Accessories, the Corvette 98552 mats are listed as clear BUT this was in 1966. I do not have a list of 1963, 1964, 1965, or 1967 Chevrolet Accessories. Are there any numbers or letters on your black rubber mats near the edge. Wayne's clear NOS mats have what appears to be "HMP 1714 2" or maybe it's "AMP 1714 2".

              Peter
I have the same mats in my 64 coupe. Mine have the tiny pointy nubs on the back to hold them to the carpet (and I think they also tear up the carpet some) which the original clears lacked. My car was pretty much untouched from the late 70s-80s best I can tell, and I have assumed these mats might have dated from that time period. And I assumed these might have been an accessory available at Chevy stores in the 70s-80s, but I don't know for certain. There are no numbers or letters on these at all.

Yup - I have the nubs on back and no identifying numbers as well.

From memory they have part numbers 1713 and 1714 on the underside of the mats centered. Rub your fingers across, it feels like braille. They're small, but there on originals. As pointed out, not a judged item but really cool to have. Originals have square sides, later replacements and reproductions have a radius/slope to them at the edges. Originals were thicker too than compared to reproductions. ARA

These came in my '64 from the same owner for 45 years. I always assumed that they were an original dealer option because they do have the part numbers, but sounds like some may not have had numbers.

Those are nice original mats. Al Knoch back in the mid 70's when he was in Michigan was reproducing floor mats that were similar to originals that were clear and had no part numbers which would later become sticky.

Michael, I had what I suspect one of those sets of floor mats back in the mid 80's. I remember them because they had turned a golden brown, but they also had that "baba shtikie" feel to them. They also did not have numbers on the back.

I was an Al Knoch dealer back then when all you have to do was order $1,000 worth of interior and you were a dealer. I still have my set of clear sticky Al Knoch reproduction floor mats with no numbers on the back.

My one-owner, 1967 survivor coupe (see Spring 2020 Corvette Restorer article) also has the clear floor mats that are quite yellowed. I always assumed they were original to the car. They have part numbers ,like Garry's photos, have square corners and smooth bottoms (no nubs). There is no mention of floor mats on the tank sticker or the shipping manifest. I reviewed all the receipts I have for maintenance and parts the original owner saved. None indicate floor mats. I do not have the dealer's invoice for the car, so maybe the dealer installed the mats at the time of delivery to the customer.
