Need some more help on distributor ID

I'm trying to ID the distributor configuration that I removed from my 1966 L79. The distributor did not have an ID band.

I have attached two pictures and have some questions on both.

    1. The distributor on the left has a 1111153 ID band. The 'football' has 153 stamped on it. The cam has 530 CCW stamping. My question is what is the deal with the weights? I've done a lot of searching on the forum and haven't see any with this shape.
    2. The distributor on the right is what I removed from my L79. The football on this one has no numbers stamped on it. The cam has 528 CCW stamping.

The springs are also different on the two distributors.

I would really like to see pictures of a correct 1111153 and 1111156 showing the weights, springs and football

Thanks very much for any help.

    Don

Re: Need some more help on distribution ID

    Don,

I have an original 1111153 distributor dated "6 A 10" in a box somewhere in my garage. My notes indicate the following:
    1. cam stamped "532" and "CCW"
    2. "football" stamped "208W"
    3. vacuum control "MS", "357", and "20" (*see note below), I do not think this is the correct vacuum control. From others on this forum the correct vacuum control is stamped "MS", "355", and "15" (GM # 1115355 in Gr. 2.410)
    4. I have a tracing of the weights in my notes and have determined that they are GM # 1881371 and look just like the weights that are on your distributor on the right side in your photo.

    * My 1966 & 1967 Chevrolet Parts catalogs (Oct. 1965 & Apr. 1967) only list vacuum control # 1116236 for the 66 Corvette 327 w/SHP (1111156 distributor), nothing for the 66 Corvette w/1111153 distributor. The 1115357 vacuum control is listed for the 1966 Chevelle (396)(exc. HP, SHP, P.G.) in my 1966 Corsair-Chevy II-Chevelle Parts Catalog (Jan. 1966).

    At a swap meet in Stafford Springs, CT, in Oct. 1992 I saw a 1111153 distributor dated "5 M 13" with a cam stamped "530" & "CCW".

I can post some photos of my 1111153 distributor after I find the box that it is in.

      Hi Don
The weights on the left are GM#1965843 used in 1966 Corvettes with the AIR option. The football number on an original GM shaft could be on the top or bottom of the football. GM had no unmarked shafts, including Trucks, Pontiacs, Buicks, Olds. etc. Will bring my distributor stuff as your information doesn't match what I have.
      See you Sat.

Here are tracings of two of my distributor weights.
The top one, possibly GM # 1965843, is from my 1111152 distributor dated "6 D 20".
The bottom one, GM # 1881371, is from my 1111153 distributor dated "6 A 10".

          Thanks.

So it looks like the one on the left came out of a 66 AIR car.

I removed the shaft from the one on the Right and there are no numbers stamped on the top or bottom of the football. So does that mean it is likely an aftermarket shaft?

              Thanks Page,

If you have time Saturday, maybe we can compare. I'll bring both distributors.

Don -- I have a service-dated [4K9], 66/67 350 hp distr. with T.I. 1111157 (should be similar to the points version 1111156). Vac adv. is MS-236-16. Mainshaft has "54" underlined, on top of autocam. Rotating starwheel/pole/weight plate is stamped "534CCW" on the underside. Metal (not nylon) advance weight wear buttons on weight plate, and the tach gear does have the nylon thrust button. Housing cast "161". The configuration of the weights is the same as your pic on the right.
