69 fuel line question

I just replaced the fuel pump on my 69 L68 coupe. The rubber fuel line that runs from the gas tank line to the fuel pump was way too long and did not look as though it was correctly routed. My question is what is the correct routing? From where it connects to the metal line from the tank, does it pass behind the rear of the pump or around the front of the pump before it connects to the pump inlet?
