1962 How can i find out how many owners were there be fore me?

I would probably start with the Department of Motor Vehicles. Some states will provide a service for a fee. A lot depends when the State's records were computerized. Good luck

If the last 5 digits of the vin on your 62 are higher than 06600, try the NCRS service (not free) that tells you the dealer to whom it was delivered. That's at least a start. Then research through the tech board and archives those posts that deal with the search. You aren't the first to do this--build on those who have already shared.

OK, i'll start since I recommended him. I started out with my '67 knowing only the selling dealer as the sole former owner and having the NCRS shipping data. Many dealers are very shy about telling you who they bought it from, etc. but he was able to get that info pretty easily. He found 9 of the 10 previous owners since new and added a wealth of information to the car's history and I talked at all the previous owners who were still alive. I could never have done this alone. He also tried to find a very rare car that had been missing for decades. He did not find it, but found some very good leads I am still following up on.

Thanks, Michael for replying back - much appreciated. The reason I ask is because I am contemplating using Mr. Gould's service and I am hoping for the best in tracing the history of my Vette. If the car was always in NJ the prefix on the title will tell you.

Bill traced my '61s history back to the 2000s but we hit a dead-end there with an uncooperative used car dealer that wouldn't offer up any information. I felt I got my money's worth even so. I had a couple of long conversations with a banker gent from Kansas City who owned the car for most of the 2000s decade and still races a hand built car at the Salt Flats. I was also able to speak with the fella that rebuilt my 283ci/270hp motor in 2004 (now retired) at length because of Bill's efforts.

I gave Bill Gould at autoAncestry.com the selling dealer as well as quite a bit of other info including some previous owners and he told me he couldn't be of any help.
